The Australia A squad has excelled as they set the standard for their country at the opening World Rowing Cup in Varese, Italy.
The Women’s Lightweight Double Scull of Anneka Reardon and Georgia Miansarow had the best result of finals day to finish place in the A-Final. The crew narrowly missed out on the podium after a blistering start by just 0.87s.
After rowing a cool-calm-and-collected win in the Repechage on Saturday evening, the Men’s Quad Scull (Jack Cleary, Caleb Antill, Campbell Watts, Alexander Rossi) left no stone unturned as they finished fifth in the world.
The crew stayed with the field for the first 1000m, then crossed the line in a time of 5:44.25s, with just 5.93s splitting the top five crews.
The Men’s Double Scull 1 of Oscar McGuinness and Mitch Reinhard rowed an excellent race to finish sixth in the world, closely behind the crew from Norway. This Double rowed across the finish line with a time of 6:18.05s.
There were great results for the remainder of the squad in the B-Finals as each crew left nothing out on the water. The results are as follows:
Women’s Coxless Four 2 finished seventh: Madeline Williams, Emily Shepard, Laura Foley and Sarah Tisdall.
Women’s Coxless Four 1 finished eighth: Eleanor Price, Georgie Gleeson, Sarah Mariott and Ella Bramwell.
Men’s Coxless Four finished eighth: Alex Wolf, Hamish Wynn-Pope, Fraser Miscamble and Charles Batrouney.
Men’s Double Scull 2 finished 10th: Harry Glackin and Hamish Harding.
Women’s Coxed Eight finished seventh: Madeline Williams, Emily Shepard, Laura Foley, Sarah Tisdall, Eleanor Price, Georgie Gleeson, Sarah Mariott, Ella Bramwell and was coxed by Anna O’Hanlon.
