Gina Rinehart has broken ground on a $20 million renovation project at Roy Hill’s headquarters in west Perth.
The newly renovated office building will host up to 600 staff and feature a roof garden and solar panels.
Reflecting Rinehart’s commitment to ongoing breast cancer research, the building will be pink themed and inspired by the Sturt desert pea.
“We love our firsts at Roy and our design will be the first of its kind in Australia, indeed the world,” Rinehart said.
“It is fitting our new West Australian corporate headquarters will embody something so Australian and special as the Sturt desert pea.”
Previously owned by oil and gas giant ConcoPhillips, the building allegedly sold for $60 million in April 2022.
“Soil has been turned at the site of our new state-of-the-art corporate headquarters in west Perth,” the company said in a Linkedin post.
“The ground-breaking project will bring Roy Hill closer to its parent company Hancock Prospecting and major shareholders Marubeni and POSCO, creating a landmark building in the heart of west Perth’s mining and resources precinct with the building’s exterior using the desert sturt pea as inspiration.”
The building is the latest pink-painted project by Rinehart, with the iron ore giant unveiling the first FLXdrive 100 per cent battery-powered locomotive alongside Watbec in the US – also pink.
