Sir Arvi Parbo, was a great Australian, a gentleman who contributed immensely to Australia and its mining industry. He was a leader in the industry, a strong advocate for the industry and a man of courage and conviction.
Born in Estonia and understanding the Soviets and the then communist system, Sir Arvi was a strong believer in the free enterprise system.
Sir Arvi joined Western Mining Corporation in 1956 and in his lifetime had a very successful career in mining becoming concurrently chairman of three of Australia’s largest companies. He received many awards and accolades for his career.
Sir Arvi and Lang Hancock, our company’s founder, were good friends, and the friendship was later shared with our Executive Chairman, Gina Rinehart, who greatly admired Sir Arvi.
Sir Arvi’s loss is not only sad for those at Hancock, but he will be remembered well, throughout the mining industry.
Sincere condolences to the family he leaves behind.
RIP Arvi.
