Roy Hill celebrates 10,000th train journey
On Thursday 21 July 2022, Roy Hill celebrated the 10,000th train journey on its rail network. Roy Hill Chief Executive Gerhard Veldsman said this milestone is a testament to the vision of our Executive Chairman, the tenacity of Roy Hill and the hard work of its people. “We know this doesn’t just happen. It involves people at many levels operating together safely and effectively over many years. Well done to everyone involved in this incredible milestone,” he said. This milestone comes after nearly seven years after the first trainload of high-grade fine ore railed from Roy Hill to Port Hedland on 22 November 2015.

Government-operated facilities deliver $166b in export income for WA State Government-operated ports in the Pilbara have again achieved record annual throughput with key commodity iron ore responsible for the lion’s share of $166 billion in export income for the State. Existing port users — BHP, Fortescue Metals Group and Roy Hill — were each allocated a 25 per cent increase in capacity while Hancock Prospecting and Mineral Resources were given the nod to jointly develop a new iron ore export facility at Stanley Point berth 3 at South West Creek. The world’s biggest bulk export port, Port Hedland, was responsible for the majority of the increase with throughput rising from 546Mt to 561Mt.

Tokyo Olympic silver medalists Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar experienced a familiar feeling on Sunday in Espinho, Portugal, winning gold at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Challenge tournament at the Praia da Baia. “It was definitely a tough one, but we’re so happy that we got the win. I’m very proud of our team, we showed grit and a lot of fight. “We had our ups and downs during the week, but we stuck together and that’s how we made it,” she said.

SKILLS SHORTAGE CONUNDRUM
Australia has half a million jobs up for grabs but is finding it near impossible to fill most of them. The Prime Minister’s $5.4b plan to make child care cheaper for families also forms a central part of his strategy to address the skills shortage. But Mr Albanese is also facing calls to encourage pensioners to return to the workforce. New Liberal leader Peter Dutton has pressed the Albanese Government to allow pensioners to earn more money without seeing their pensions being cut back — borrowing an idea championed by WA mining magnate Gina Rinehart and rejected by the Coalition. Currently pensioners can earn $300 a fortnight before their pension payments are reduced, but Mr Dutton wants the income threshold to be increased to $600.
