Emma McKeon will have to wait another day to become Australia’s most decorated Commonwealth Games athlete after an epic 100m Butterfly dogfight with Olympic champion Margaret MacNeil. An impressive start saw the superstar leading the field at the 50-metre mark, but an unbelievable turn saw the Canadian reel in her advantage and surge into the lead.
“So for me coming here tonight was just purely enjoyment and trying to get the best out of myself and it was also a bit of a redemption swim. I wanted to come back to it and do the best I could do.” Stubblety-Cook has quickly emerged as Australia’s most dominant male team member after a whirlwind 12 months.
Another sensational day of action in Birmingham, with Australia winning five gold medals with victories in the pool and the marathons. Our Aussie athletes captured a further 11 medals on Day 2 to solidify top spot on the medal tally.
