More than 95 swimmers from across the state aged eight to 17 travelled to Broome to compete in the Kimberley Open Short Course event on September 24 to 26.

From as far south as Busselton to as far north as Derby the swimmers turned out to test their strokes against the 42 swimmers from Broome.

The competition was furious with 32 Kimberley and 24 All-Comer records broken and 429 personal bests broken from 96 different competitors.

Jasper Barnett and Tate Beatty were the two best junior swimmers of the meet while Jessica Coggins and Sean Campbell were the best intermediate swimmers.

Stevi Evans and Brody Andrews were the two best senior swimmers of the event.

Broome Barracudas Swimming Club secretary Melita Grant said the competition was extremely high and was glad to see so many records broken in the successful event.

“Many thanks to the sponsors, officials and everyone who assisted with organising the event,” she said.

It comes after some other recent gripping wins for the Broome Barracudas.

In August a team of five senior swimmers from Broome went down to Perth for the Hancock Prospecting Short Course State Championships at HBF Stadium.

Max Meiers won silver in the 100m and 200m breaststroke events and Sean Campbell won silver in the 200m freestyle event.

In September a team of seven junior swimmers attended the Hancock Propecting Junior Short Course State Championships also at HBF Stadium.

Neve Grant won a bronze medal in the 100m Butterfly and Tate Beatty won gold coming home as the 50m Backstroke State Champion for the ninth time.

“Again our swimmers represented the club beautifully with many new personal bests and top eight placings,” Ms Grant said.

“All swimmers swam excellently and achieved many new personal best times.”
