Australia is through to the semifinals of the women’s beach volleyball competition. The Aussie pairing of Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy, pictured, exacted revenge on the Canadian team of Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes who beat them in the gold medal match at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
They won in three sets, 21-15 , 19-21 , 15-12 (55-48 ). They will play Latvia tomorrow night for the right to play off for the gold medal. Switzerland meets the US in the other semifinal. They are the first Australian women’s pair to reach the semifinals since Natalie Cook and Nicole Sanderson finished fourth in Athens in 2004.
