Historic ship sail out and locomotive naming as Roy Hill celebrates 55 mtpa achievement, becoming the largest single iron ore mine in Australia.
Today Roy Hill celebrated a historic ship sail out and christened five locomotives to mark the historic occasion of becoming the largest single iron ore mine in Australia.
Mrs Rinehart, along with executives from Berge Bulk, Marubeni, POSCO and CSC, sailed out on the ‘Berge Toubkal’, marking only the second time such sail out has occurred from Port Hedland, the first being Roy Hill’s first iron ore shipment in December 2015.
After returning to port, five locomotives were christened with ginger beer.
The first locomotive was named after Hancock and Roy Hill Executive Director Tad Watroba. Tad has been instrumental in assisting Mrs Rinehart develop the Roy Hill project and bring it from nothing, first achieving temporary tenements in 1993, to after years of work and funding, Australia’s single largest iron ore mine.
The next locomotives were named after Roy Hill’s minority owners – Marubeni, POSCO and China Steel Corporation (CSC), who are steadfast partners, present with the project prior to any construction occurring.
Finally, Barry was the name of the last locomotive christened today. Barry Fitzgerald is the CEO of Roy Hill, who has been with the project since 2010 and has worked very hard to see it where it is today.
