St Vincent’s Private Hospital Sydney will today announce a donation of $5million by Hancock Prospecting and the Georgina Hope Foundation for the Hospital’s major redevelopment currently underway.
To acknowledge this gift, as well as Mrs Rinehart’s ongoing support for the Hospital, St Vincent’s will today host Mrs Rinehart and a group of guests for a special tour of the St Vincent’s Campus.
Construction of the new St Vincent’s Private Hospital 13-level East Wing is well under way and is set to open in September. The new East Wing, as well as the renovation of the existing main private hospital building will house 50 additional patient rooms, state of the art operating theatres, consulting suites, and new rehabilitation and ambulatory care units.
The redevelopment will further enhance St Vincent’s Private Hospital’s capability to meet community needs by 20 per cent and maximise outcomes for all patients served. The $150 million project has been supported by $34.5 million in philanthropic donations raised by the St Vincent’s Curran Foundation.
Executive Chairman of Hancock Prospecting, Mrs Gina Rinehart, has a special relationship with St Vincent’s Private Hospital and long term care where cancer is concerned, having established the then first breast cancer foundation back in the early nineties, and her support of the construction of the new East Wing and refurbishment of the Private Hospital is an acknowledgement of this special relationship and care.

In addition to this major financial gift, Mrs Rinehart has had an existing philanthropic relationship with St Vincent’s through the provision of ‘care packs’ to patients who stay more than four days, which includes many cancer patients at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Sydney. These care packs containing mattress toppers, pillows, towels, toiletries and other care items to help these patients enjoy a greater level of comfort and to assist the mitigation of infection risk in Hospital and when they return home – at a time when they need all the support they can get. ‘During the often stressful challenges of a long-term illness, it is these special caring things that can make a very big difference to the patient’s stay. I know first-hand from our patients’ feedback that Mrs Rinehart’s contribution is very much appreciated,’ said Mr Cusack.
