EMMA’S EIGHT IS ENOUGH FOR NOW
EMMA McKeon has her sights firmly set on the Paris Olympics as she wraps up her successful Commonwealth Games campaign with a whopping eight medals.
The swimming superstar and her pop star boyfriend Cody Simpson are now set to enjoy a European holiday after a gruelling campaign in Birmingham where their relationship dominated the headlines.
“It was obviously a pretty tough week,” McKeon said.
“There were lots of good parts to it. Obviously sharing it with Cody and having both my parents in the stands every time I raced. That was special because they couldn’t be in Tokyo.
“There were so many amazing parts of the week but yes, there were tough parts as well.
“I’ll say it’s been a rollercoaster of emotions.”
McKeon takes home eight medals – six golds, a silver and a bronze – making Australia’s most successful Olympic athlete the most prolific Commonwealth athlete.
“The main thing was definitely the mental toll,” she said.
“It’s been a big week. It was physically tough but I’ve trained for that. Mentally, you have to get up to race.”
