Australia Day speech by Adam Giles Interim CEO of Hancock Agriculture and S. Kidman & Co

Hello

My name is Adam Giles. I am the interim CEO of Hancock Agriculture and S Kidman & Co.

And I am here today welcoming you on this very special day.

Australia Day is always a special day. It is part of our history.

People often think of Australia Day as being when Captain Cook first landed.

In fact, Captain Cook first landed in eastern Australia in April 1770

Eight years later, on January 18th 1788 we saw the landing of the first fleet at Port Botany

Over time states and territories decided to celebrate being Australia, and not wanting the anniversary to being on 28 April when Captain Cook first arrive, nor 18 January of the first fleet, they identified a new day being 26 January

The 26th January as Australia Day was further cemented with the passing of the Australian Citizenship Act on January 26th, 1949 which gave all inhabitants of this country the opportunity, for the first time, to be on their passport, as Australians not solely British subjects

It is also worth noting that this legislation gave married women the right to their own Australian passport, and not have to be listed on their husbands, for the first time.

So today, Australia Day, marks a memorable occasion for many reasons

And today I am going to talk about a great Australian

Mrs Rinehart our executive chairman, launched 2GR wagyu in Queensland and New South Wales back in 2017, where we have most of our wagyu properties.

Since then under Mrs Rinehart’s high standards of cattle care, and her mantra, “happy healthy cattle are the best cattle” 2GR has achieved outstanding success.

In the last quarter of 2022 2GR brisket was awarded second place worldwide in an international steak and ribs competition held in Brazil. To be invited to participate in the world event, we firstly had to win in Australia, which our 2gr wagyu did.

In November 2022 2GR won the Agribusiness, Food and Beverages award at the Australian Export Awards.

Our wagyu herd has grown to become the largest full blood wagyu herd in Australia based in New South Wales, Queensland and more recently in WA.

And importantly through the dedicated work of our team over many years selecting the right genetics and feeding program, and ensuring cattle are well cared for with minimum stress, the average marble score has improved from 7 to 8 with a significant part of our production now being marble score 9 – 9 being the top marble score.

And importantly too, ours is beautifully finely marbled, without clumping in patches of fat and gristle.

2GR wagyu is known for its perfect marbling, as well as its superb flavour. It will honour the taste-buds of the most sophisticated beef connoisseur, and executive chef.

This very tender delicacy is one of the most highly regarded meats in the world.

And our Wagyu product, branded 2GR as illustrated on the banners, is exported to 16 countries around the world, from the UK, to Europe, the US to the Maldives and served right here in Australia at more than 116 venues including right here in Queensland at:

Moo Moo
BOS
Boom Boom Room
Black Bird
The Norman Hotel

So your local 2GR Wagyu product could be grown just 2 hours up the road and you could buy it just down the street.

But as I stand here today we are not promoting steaks but instead a new product being Mrs Rineharts signature Wagyu dish…Carpaccio

Many would know that Carpaccio is a type of appetiser dish that originated in Italy. It is made from thinly sliced, raw meat served with fresh premium accoutrements such as truffle oil, rock salt and quail eggs

And today we are launching our new 2GR Gourmet Capaccio packs (hold up the packs) which include 8 slices of carpaccio, a bottle of truffle oil and a socket of rock salt.

On the back of the packaging you’ll find preparation instructions, and yes you’ll have to source your own rocket and quail eggs

For those guests here today everyone will be receiving a special Australia Day gift pack complete with Australia Day flag and for a special 25 guests they will receive the official packs which are now being sold through our Hancock Agriculture website

If you would like to have a look and order some of these 2GR Gourmet Carpaccio packs please log onto www.hancockagriculture.com.au or by emailing sales@hancockagricultrue.com.au

While you’re making a note of those website and email addresses be sure to also catch our famous Kidman gourmet pies here today.

Thank you for your attention and please enjoy your Australia Day carpaccio packs.
