Roy Hill is pleased to announce that Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd (HPPL) and Roy Hill Holdings Pty Ltd, Chairman, Mrs Gina Rinehart has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of West Australia (CME) at the CME Women in Resources Awards breakfast on Friday 4 March 2016.
The award was bestowed on Mrs Rinehart for her considerable involvement in the Australian mining industry over many years, which includes; HPPL’s 50 percent stake in the development of three mines at Hope Downs, in the Pilbara region of West Australia, and one more due to commence exporting next year, with Rio Tinto; development of the $10b Roy Hill Project, which commenced exports in December 2015; interests in a substantial pipeline of other major projects in West Australia and Queensland; and her significant commitment and support in the push for regulatory, approvals and compliance reforms for the industry to help improve industry competitiveness.
Mrs Rinehart has also contributed to the industry via her quarterly articles in a mining and resources publication, and for founding National Mining and Related Industries Day, (held annually on 22 November), in addition to writing two books and giving various addresses in support of the mining and resources industry.
Receiving the award, Mrs Rinehart said, “I am delighted to receive recognition from the industry that I have been part of and that has been part of me throughout so much of my life and it is particularly special to receive this acknowledgement in my home state of West Australia.”
“At this time when the mining industry is struggling with significantly lower commodity prices and the need to improve productivity and lower costs, it is a difficult time for our important industry. Despite these difficult times, we need to ensure that we have visible symbols of success so that the next generation of female students can see a pathway to the top in the mining industry and this is where the CME plays a valuable role in celebrating the success of our industry’s female leaders and making sure that their success is visible,” Mrs Rinehart added.
