Christmas light entries still open

TODAY is the last day to nominate for South Burnett Christmas Lights Competition.

Gina Rinehart, through Hancock Prospecting, has renewed her commitment to offering the prize money again meaning the first and second place winners will be off on a holiday to Singapore.

This means competition would be fierce and Mayor Keith Campbell said the council had already received up to 60 entries.

“First prize is a trip to Singarpore valued at $15,000,” Cr Campbell said.

“The runner-up prize is also a trip to Singapore valued at $10,000.”

The district will be divided in to five areas, centring on Kingaroy, Nanango, Blackbutt, Wondai and Murgon.

A first and second place winner will be drawn from each region and they win $500 and $300 respectively.

These 10 entrants will go into a final round of judging for major prizes.

Importantly, Cr Campbell said the major winners from last year would be excluded from the judging this year.

“It’s to stop whoever wins the top prize from winning each and every year. I think that is a fair rule and gives everybody a chance,” Cr Campbell said.

As for the judging, each councillor will select judges from their towns and the major prizes will be judged by a second, secret panel.
